All sessions will run approximately 40 minutes.
Kindergarten: A Tour of Our Solar System
Students become acquainted with our “cosmic address” as well as identifying celestial bodies in the day and night sky. Students also learn how to distinguish stars from planets and asteroids etc. They touch on each planet in our Solar System and special features about each.
1st & 2nd Grade: Going Around in Orbit
Students learn about orbit and how different celestial bodies move in space. Students learn how orbit contributes to the day-night cycle, moon phases, seasons, and the apparent movement of stars at night.
3rd - 5th Grade: The Sky Tonight
Students look at the Starfield for their location on Earth and time of the year. They learn how to identify seasonal constellations, planets, and meteors. Students can also talk about how to identify patterns in the sky, and how to use the stars for navigational purposes.
6th - 8th Grade: Milky Way Galaxy Tour
Students identify circumpolar/seasonal constellations and the Milky Way, while talking about distances between the stars in the Milky Way in a three-dimensional sense. Locate star clusters and nebulae. Learn about the birth, life, and death of stars. Learn how we determine where we are in our Milky Way Galaxy.
9th - 12th Grade: Universe Tour
Locate the celestial pole and equator, ecliptic, meridian, and zenith. Identify constellations. Understand how the stars appear to move in our sky and how these stars form our galaxy.
Learn how the galaxy fits into the Universe and how our Universe may have formed, creating what we see today.
