Planned Development of the Gemini IRAF Package

The Gemini IRAF package will include reduction software for all facility instruments. In addition, there will be generic packages for handling different types of data. The instrument specific packages will gradually be changed to make use of the generic packages. The current plans for content are listed below.

        mosls - Generic MOS/Longslit reduction package
          ifu - Generic IFU reduction package

         gmos - Reduction tasks for GMOS-N and GMOS-S data
        gnirs - Reduction tasks for GNIRS
         nifs - Reduction tasks for NIFS
         niri - Reduction tasks for NIRI data
        midir - Reduction tasks for T-ReCS and Michelle data
        quirc - Reduction tasks for Hokupa'a/QUIRC data
        oscir - Reduction tasks for OSCIR data
    flamingos - Reduction tasks for Flamingos-I data
     gemtools - Generic tools developed for Gemini observations

The next release of the Gemini IRAF package is planned for the first half of 2007. That release will be for maintenance.

Gemini is currently working in collaboration with STScI to port the Gemini package to the PyRAF environment. Support for Flamingos-II is expected to be PyRAF-dependent. More information on this transition to PyRAF will be made available to the user at a later, more appropriate time.
