Patches for Gemini IRAF package v1.7 and v1.8

Patches have been made available for both 1.7 and 1.8 versions of the Gemini package to correct a bug in GSFLAT.

NICI Planet Search Campaign Call for Proposals released

The NICI Planet Search Campaign Call for Proposals (including the Request for Proposals and Statement of Work (MOU) documents) has been released. The deadline is 7 November 2005.

PI electronic data distribution

We have recently implemented the first version of PI electronic data distribution via the Gemini Science Archive. From this semester this mechanism replaces data distribution via hard-media.

GNIRS OT library and help updated

The Observing Tool library of example configurations and sequences for GNIRS has been updated and made available for download from teh Observing Database using the OT. Help pages have also been updated.

OT (Palote 3.1) and FC4 incompatibility

We have discovered the latest OT release (Palote 3.1) is not compatible with Fedora Core 4 Line distribution. This issue and a workaround have been posted to the OT bugs page.

GNIRS calibrations updated

Recommended calibrations for GNIRS have been updated following replacement of the Kr lamp with Xe, and expanded to other camera/grating combinations.

Instructions for the Phase II process including deadlines, database access to 'skeleton' proposals and other late-breaking information for 2005B observation preparations.

2005B queue and classical schedule

The results of the 2005B ITAC are now available, listing the approved queue and classical programs. PIs will be contacted shortly with Phase II instructions. Feedback on successful and unsuccessful proposals will be via the National Gemini Offices as normal.

New Xe calibration lamp for GNIRS

The Krypton arc lamp in Gemini South GCAL has been replaced with Xenon to provide more calibration lines, especiallly for GNIRS working at R=18,000. For the time being, the OT still shows Kr which should be selected to use Xe.

Gemini North ITCs default to silver mirror coatings

The GMOS North, NIRI (including altair) and Michelle ITCs now default to the current silver primary and secondary mirror coatings. The various sensitivity table web pages still report values for aluminium (a caution has been added) and will be updated shortly.

Bug/Feature - PIT and OT assume RA unit is hr

The Phase I Tool (PIT) and Observing Tool (OT) both assume that units of RA are hr. Values greater than 24 are 'unwapped' e.g. an RA of 243.7 (intended to be in degrees) is interpreted as an RA of 3.7hr.
