Gemini IRAF v1.15 Released - Flamingos 2 MOS Support

Flamingos 2 MOS support is now available in the new full release of Gemini IRAF v1.15.  This new version also includes the changes from the recent v1.14 patch, as well as various bug fixes.  To install Gemini IRAF v1.15, use conda.  If you already have a conda environment (eg. geminiconda) with Gemini IRAF v1.14, activate the environment and install the "iraf.gemini" packages:

   > conda activate geminiconda
   > conda install iraf.gemini=1.15 --no-update-deps

Gemini IRAF Patch for New Flamingos 2 Filters

A patch release for Gemini IRAF v1.14 is available.

The replacement of two filters and the reshuffling of another in Flamingos 2 necessitated additions and modifications to lookup tables and modifications to the code. This patch release contains only the affected files. The patch is to be applied on-top of an already installed Gemini IRAF v1.14 package.

Installation instructions and content of the patch are available in gemini_v114_patch1.txt.

F-2 is back in operations

January 29th, 2022

F-2 was successfully checked on January 26th after an intevention that lasted for most of January. New JH and HK gratings were installed and its performance will be assessed in the following days. Additionally, the  J_low filter is now permanently installed.

F-2 planned shutdown

November 19th, 2021

An intervention of Flamingos-2 is planned between January 3rd and 21st where the instrument will be offline. The following tasks are planned:

MOS wheel check and preventive work.
Replace the JH/HK spectroscopic filters with higher throughput ones.
Modify the Lyot wheel to allow the installation of the J-low and Y filters instead of the Hartmann masks.
Increase the number of layers in the dewars insulation, to allow more thermal stability.
