Calibration Data Retrieval - GSA queries

- GMOS-N/GMOS-S MOS Mask Definition Files (MDF):

- Go to the GSA "Search Complete Catalog" page
- Select "GMOS-N" or "GMOS-S" from the "User Defined Query" menu on the left.
- Select the following fields to constrain the query: Observation Constraints: obstype
- In the field "Program ID", enter the programe identification (e.g. GS-2005B-Q-4)
- In the field "obstype", enter MASK
- Apply the search, select the appropriate mask definition file and follow the instructions for retrieval.

- GMOS-N/GMOS-S Imaging calibrations (flats, photometric standards):

- Go to the GSA "Search Complete Catalog" page
- Select a "GMOS-N and/or GMOS-S" Standard query from the menu on the right
- In the field "Data Label", select the option "Contains" and type CALYYYY, where YYYY is the year your data was taken.
- To restrict the search , try constraining the CAL observations to be those of the same month your data was taken (eg, if the science data was taken 2005 Jul 05, use "Data Label" Contains CAL200507) or restricting the release date to +/- one month of the observation date (for the same 2005 Jul 05 observation, use "Release Date" 1 Jun 2005 .. 30 Jul 2005)
- Select the appropriate Observation type (Flat, or Object). Most imaging flats are taken as twilight and therefore appear as "Object".
- Restrict the search by the filter if desired (a tip on wildcards: ~g_G will select only the data taken with the g' filter, while g or g* will return nothing and ~g will return all filters!)
- Restrict the instrument (GMOS-N or GMOS-S)
- Restrict "Grating" as ~mirror
- Apply the search, select the appropriate calibration frames and follow the instructions for retrieval.
- The search will return both raw and processed imaging flats. The processed frames can be identified by a datalabel ending in _f for GMOS-N and ending in _g for GMOS-S
- To search only for the processed flats, use "Data Label" Contains flat
- Processed files for the GMOS-S imaging standards are also available, and can be selected by searching with "Data Label" Contains rg

- GMOS-N/GMOS-S Biases (Imaging and Spectroscopy):

- Go to the GSA "Search Complete Catalog" page
- Select a "GMOS-N and/or GMOS-S" Standard query from the menu on the right
- In the field "Data Label", select the option "Contains" and type CALYYYY, where YYYY is the year your data was taken.
- To restrict the search , try constraining the CAL observations to be those of the same month your data was taken (eg, if the science data was taken 2005 Jul 05, use "Data Label" Contains CAL200507) or restricting the release date to +/- one month of the observation date (for the same 2005 Jul 05 observation, use "Release Date" 1 Jun 2005 .. 30 Jul 2005)
- Select Observation type as Bias
- Restrict the instrument (GMOS-N or GMOS-S)
- Apply the search, select the appropriate calibration frames and follow the instructions for retrieval.
- Note that GMOS biases should be selected depending on the CCD readout mode and region of interest used for the science data.
- The search will return both raw and processed biases. The processed frames can be identified by a datalabel ending in _b for GMOS-N and _g for GMOS-S
- To search only for the processed biases, use "Data Label" Contains bias

- GMOS-N/GMOS-S Nod and Shuffle Darks:
- Go to the GSA "Search Complete Catalog" page
- Select a "GMOS-N and/or GMOS-S" Standard query from the menu on the right
- In the field "Data Label", select the option "Contains" and type CALYYYY, where YYYY is the year your data was taken.
- To restrict the search, you can select the same total exposure time as the science data (remember that the queries are exact matches, including the decimal places, so "Exposure time" 1200 will return nothing; use ~1200).
- Select Observation type as Dark
- Restrict the instrument (GMOS-N or GMOS-S)
- Apply the search, select the appropriate calibration frames and follow the instructions for retrieval.
- Note that different combinations of exposure time and N&S cycles can yield the same total exposure time. Before downloading the data, check against the Calibration Obslog to see if that particular set is the one corresponding to your science data.
- for the Biases, follow the instruction in the previous topic.
- NIRI imaging standards:
- Go to the GSA "Search Complete Catalog" page
- Select a "NIRI" Standard query from the menu on the right
- In the field "Release Date" enter the same observing date as the science frame (e.g., 1 Jun 2005), or a range of two days, starting (or ending) with that one (e.g., 1 Jun 2005 .. 2 Jun 2005), to include all observations taken before 00UT that night.
- Select "Observation Type" Object
- Restrict by filter or camera if desired
- Apply the search, select the appropriate calibration frames and follow the instructions for retrieval
- GNIRS XD 32l/mm (R=1800) spectroscopy:
- Go to the GSA "Search Complete Catalog" page
- Select "GNIRS" from the User Defined Query menu on the left
- Select the following fields to constrain the query:
Instrument constraints:  grating, prism and slit
Target constraints: object
- In the field "Data Label", type ~CAL
- Restrict the search using the UT Datetime field to narrow to a couple of days around the science observation (e.g., 01 Jan 2005 .. 03 Jan 2005)
- Use "Grating" ~32 to select the 32l/mm  only
- Use "Prism" ~xd to select the cross dispersed mode only
- Use "Object" ~flat to include only GCAL flats and pinholes
- Apply the search, select the appropriate calibration frames and follow the instructions for retrieval.
- Remember that the flats should be with the same slit as the science exposures, and the pinhole can be identified as having slit ="LgPinholes",
- MICHELLE imaging standards:
- Go to the GSA "Search Complete Catalog" page
- Select "MICHELLE" from the User Defined Query menu on the left
-  Select the following fields to constrain the query:
Instrument constraints: camera, filters
Target constraints: object
- In the field UT Datetime, narrow the search to the same night as your observation (e.g., 1 Jun 2005), or a range of two days, starting (or ending) with that one (e.g., 1 Jun 2005 .. 2 Jun 2005), to include all observations taken before 00UT that night.
- Use "Camera" imaging to select the image mode datasets only
- Apply the search, select the appropriate calibration frames and follow the instructions for retrieval.
- The filter names in the image headers are somewhat obscure, the association between the Observing Tool requested setup and the actual filter names is as following:

- Restrict the search using the UT Datetime to narrow to the same night as your observation (e.g., 1 Jun 2005), or a range of two days, starting (or ending) with that one (e.g., 1 Jun 2005 .. 2 Jun 2005), to include all observations taken before 00UT that night.
- Use "Grating" ~Mirror
- Use "Slit" ~Open
- Apply the search, select the appropriate calibration frames and follow the instructions for retrieval.
- Processed (for data quality assessment) frames can be identified by a datalabel ending in _t
- To restrict the search to processed frames only, use "Data Label" ~t
