NSF's OIR Lab is monitoring the development of COVID-19. To ensure the safety of its staff and the public, it has been decided as a precautionary measure to suspend public visits to Cerro Tololo and Cerro Pachón in Chile until further notice.

The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA), on behalf of the Gemini Observatory, is soliciting competitive proposals to design and build five (5) Laser Launch Telescopes (LLTs) for the Gemini North Adaptive Optics facility (GNAO), a multi-conjugate adaptive optics system currently under development.

The complete Request for Proposal (RFP) documentation related to this solicitation will be available for download on the AURA Central Administrative Services website in early March.

Gemini Observatory announces an opportunity for New Large and Long Programs.  Eligible PIs are invited to propose scientific investigations to begin observation in 2020B semester. Letters of Intent are required to be submitted no later than February 4, 2020 with complete proposals due April 1, 2020.  Details on large programs, the proposal process, and specifics on the 2020 call for proposals are available on the Large and Long Program webpages.

International Gemini Observatory

The International Gemini Observatory  provides the astronomical communities in six participant countries with state-of-the-art astronomical facilities that allocate observing time in proportion to each country's contribution. In addition to financial support, each country also contributes significant scientific and technical resources. The national research agencies that form the Gemini partnership include: the US National Science Foundation (NSF), the Canadian National Research Council (NRC), the Chilean Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo (ANID), the Brazilian Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação, the Argentinean Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación, and the Korea Astronomy and Space Institute (KASI). The observatory is managed by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA) under a cooperative agreement with the NSF. The NSF also serves as the executive agency for the international partnership.
