New MOS mask design software released

A new version of the Gemini MOS Mask Preparation Software (GMMPS) is now available. This version contains significiant changes designed to improve usability and to reduce the time needed to iterate on mask designs.  The slit placement algorithm has also been improved. All users of GMMPS are encouraged to update.

Updated beta version of the Gemini IRAF package released (v1.12beta2)

An updated beta version of the Gemini IRAF package (v1.12beta2) has been released. This version is required for processing GSAOI data and includes configuration files and examples. Please see the pre-releases page for more information.

GNIRS Status and Availability Change

GNIRS optical work has been postponed to 2014, see the Status and Availability page. This means that GNIRS remains on the telescope later in the 13A semester and is expected to be available for science in early August. Also imaging using GNIRS and the Y filter is not possible, and the short red camera is not available, until 2014.

Gemini North June/July Schedule Revised

Due to the delay to the planned GNIRS engineering the North telescope 2013A schedule has been revised. GNIRS is now available later in the semester, while NIRI will be available for less time, than originally planned. The revised availability is shown on the Gemini North 2013A schedule overview.

GMOS Lick standard spectra available

Reduced GMOS B600 spectra of Lick line index standard stars are now available from the GMOS calibration page. The calibration parameters to put the GMOS-N/S spectra on the Lick spectral line index system are given in Puzia et al. (2013, AJ, accepted, see astro-ph 1304.3142). These stars may also be useful as spectral templates and radial velocity standards.

International Gemini Observatory

The International Gemini Observatory  provides the astronomical communities in six participant countries with state-of-the-art astronomical facilities that allocate observing time in proportion to each country's contribution. In addition to financial support, each country also contributes significant scientific and technical resources. The national research agencies that form the Gemini partnership include: the US National Science Foundation (NSF), the Canadian National Research Council (NRC), the Chilean Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo (ANID), the Brazilian Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação, the Argentinean Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación, and the Korea Astronomy and Space Institute (KASI). The observatory is managed by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA) under a cooperative agreement with the NSF. The NSF also serves as the executive agency for the international partnership.
