February 2024: Call to join the Early Science Team (EST)
The IGRINS-2 System Verification observing run is planned for July 2024. The purpose of the run is to:
While Gemini is once again observing after the Cyber Incident, there are some operational issues which we are still working out. We are writing to inform you of the operational limitations we are working under while work continues.
In particular, some of the usual tools for communicating program status are currently unavailable or not fully functional, and we are actively working to minimize the impact on users.
After the successful upgrade of two of the three GMOS-S CCDs, the instrument is back on the telescope and undergoing recommissioning. The long-slit mode has been released for taking science data. However, updates for the data reduction packages in IRAF and DRAGONS are pending testing after the full commissioning data set has been collected and will likely not be available until the May/June timeframe.
Gemini North and South are accepting proposals for the Fast Turnaround (FT) program in this call. Here, we give information specific to this proposal cycle.
Gemini 2024A observing programs and schedule have been announced!
Notification emails were sent to successful PIs on Dec 18, 2023. Please check the schedules page for more information.
Note that the latest version of the Observing Tool is required to access and update 2024A programs.

The design of GNAO is optimized for a broad range of science cases that will allow for major synergies with the James Webb Space Telescope and Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) as well as other recent and upcoming facilities like the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope and Euclid. The example science highlighted below is a joint summary of the science cases developed for GNAO and its primary science instrument GIRMOS.
Letters of intent are now solicited for new Gemini Large and Long Proposals, to begin in semester 2024B. Letters are due by February 12 2024, and full proposals by April 1 2024.
